A farmer died in Sehra near Rajpura while protesting against BJP Patiala candidate Preneet Kaur on Saturday.
Surinderpal Singh, 45, fell on the ground while a group of farmers was protesting against the BJP candidate. Farmer leader Tejveer Singh said the police were on the spot when the incident took place.
Later, Preneet Kaur’s team released a video in which the farmer is seen standing near the protest site. In the video, Preneet Kaur’s car is stopped and the victim is seen protesting along with other agitators. The police were seen asking the protestors not to stop the candidate’s car. Suddenly, Surinderpal Singh collapses to the ground.
He was taken to the hospital where he was declared ‘brought dead’. Preneet Kaur has not issued any statement yet.
Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee Chief Sarwan Singh Pandher said he had visited the spot and was trying to find out the details.
BJP leaders are facing protests from farmers in Punjab. Preneet Kaur was heckled earlier also. Faridkot BJP candidate Hans Raj Hans has also faced several protests by farmers.
Voting for the Patiala Lok Sabha seat will be held on June 1.
